Commission terms
How we work with you
These are the terms under which Crefftau Eryri makes slate, furniture and ceramics to order. We have kept them short and in plain English.
Who you are dealing with
You are dealing with Crefftau Eryri / Snowdonia Makers Cooperative Ltd, trading as Snowdon Design & Craft Guild, of Hen Ysgol Craft Workshops, Holyhead Rd, Betws-y-Coed LL24 0AB. This page governs work made to order. It does not touch your statutory rights as a consumer.
Quotes and deposits
A written quote stands for thirty days. It becomes a contract when you accept it in writing and pay a deposit of thirty per cent. The balance is due before delivery or collection. We will tell you before we begin if materials move in price enough to change the figure, and you may withdraw at that point.
Made to order, and changing your mind
Most of what we make is built to your measurements and wishes. The Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 do not give a fourteen-day right to cancel goods made to your specification, so once we have cut stone, steamed ash or thrown clay for you, the order cannot be cancelled. If you change your mind before we start, we will return your deposit less the costs we have actually met, and we will show you the figures.
Natural materials
Slate varies in shade and ripple from block to block, and Penrhyn and Ffestiniog stone will never match each other. Ash shows its grain and sometimes a pin knot. A reduction glaze moves in the kiln, so no two celadon pieces break exactly alike. We show you samples and tell you what is likely. Variation of this kind is the nature of the material, not a fault.
Delivery and risk
We give lead times as honest estimates. If the date moves we say so as soon as we know. Goods are yours to look after from the moment they are delivered or collected. Please check them within seven days and tell us at once about any damage or defect, with photographs.
Slate is heavy. Before a hearth or cill is delivered you should confirm that the floor, wall and access can take it. Fitting is not included unless the quote says so.
Our advice and the calculator
The slate calculator and tables on this website are indicative. They are meant for planning and conversation, not for design. A roof must be specified by a competent designer or roofer against BS 5534, BS 8000-6, your slate supplier’s data and the loads for your site. We cannot accept responsibility for a roof designed from the calculator alone.
If something is wrong
If something we made is faulty, tell us. We will repair it, replace it or refund you as the Consumer Rights Act 2015 provides. Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused resulting from workshop negligence, misrepresentation, or statutory liabilities the law does not allow us to limit.
If we cannot agree, we would like to talk before anyone reaches for a lawyer. Write to [email protected] and a member will respond within five working days.
Our designs and your photographs
The designs, drawings and text on this site and in our quotes remain ours. You own what you buy, but the right to copy a design stays with us. We will only use photographs of your commission in our portfolio if you say we may.
